i, Too Sing America
Who We Are
We are artists who have graced the stages of the Metropolitan Opera, Broadway, international and domestic opera houses, concert stages, and places of worship all over the world. Committed to presenting quality performances rooted in education and equality, we create and seek opportunities which allow us to give performances that support, heal, and help our community, our nation, and our world.
What We Do
World-renowned Baritone Kenneth Overton and Metropolitan Opera Soprano Janinah Burnett present a musical tribute through rhyme, reason, song, and spoken word lifted to those who have fallen due to the recent violent events having taken place in Charleston, SC, Ferguson, MO, New York, NY, Oakland, CA, New Orleans, LA, Flint, MI, and Cleveland, OH to name a few. It is our intention to establish an environment that motivates our audiences to feel, emote, and heal through the musical experience we present. Joined by the wonderfully talented James Davis Jr., and Reverend Rashad Raymond Moore, Senior Pastor of First Baptist Church of Crown Heights. I, Too Sing America features an offering of the magic and the message of Spirituals arranged by John Carter and Hall John-son, Art Songs by Leslie Adams and Margaret Bonds, and Freedom Songs by Donnie Hathaway presented as a balm to hearts and a call for change through impeccable artistry. For each concert, a portion of our proceeds goes to an organization in which we believe. In the past, we have donated to Operation Help or Hush which supports protesters in Ferguson, MO. and offers housing to those in need.
